UNLESS THEY ARE ACCEPTED IN THE MUSIC PROGRAM.
Math in Art
Students will investigate the interactions between math and art, offering a multidisciplinary approach using geometry, optical perspective, ratios , proportions and percents. Each activity will begin with a brief history and then students apply what they learned to create their own project.
An overview course designed to allow students to explore a variety of media, techniques and methods. Projects focus on introducing and developing the elements of art (line, form, color, value, texture) and principles of design (balance, variety, harmony, emphasis). Understanding and appreciation of self and others artistic interpretation is a result. Samplings of two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects are produced.
In this class, students will be introduced to the basic concepts of theatre arts. Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and role-play. Through theatre games and activities students will learn to lose inhibitions and will gain trust in themselves as well as others in their groups. Students will learn and use drama and theatre vocabulary in class discussions and the activities will specifically address the promotion and reinforcement of students' literacy skills. A history of theatre timeline will be presented. Students will exhibit and reinforce their skills through individual and group presentations, performances, and script and journal writing.
Students will develop a basic foundation in computer science principles and programming using block-based coding via Scratch, Google CS First, and Code.org. The self-guided and self-paced tutorials use scaffolding programming instructions to explore and practice algorithmic thinking while encouraging student communication and collaboration to solve puzzles and complete tasks. The CS First lessons are based on themes like Music & Sound (create a music video and build an interactive music display), Fashion & Design (build fashion-themed apps), Storytelling (create interactive stories), and Game Design (code a game) to harvest student interest. Block-based coding will also be used to control and program Spheros, an app-controlled robot ball.
ENGINEERING THROUGH TRANSPORTATION – S.T.E.M. is educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This course will investigate S.T.E.M. Through the Engineering involved with transportation technologies, including Mechanical, Electrical, Flight, and Design.
This course is designed to provide emerging and existing leaders the opportunity to explore the concept of leadership and to develop and improve their leadership skills. Leadership functions as a class wherein the instruction will consist of:
- Introduction to and Development of Leadership Skills
- Team Building
- Improvement of Social, and Organization Skills
Also, this class will be responsible for the planning and execution of the majority of the school’s functions and activities
Spanish I is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish speaking world. We will begin to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. We will begin the study of the vocabulary and grammatical structures of the Spanish language. We will also learn about the products, practices and perspectives of Spanish speaking countries. Mainly, the goal is to begin to communicate in the language and to get excited about it!
This class is designed to allow students to extend and apply their background from their general science classes through engineering and design practices. Students will be challenged to solve real world problems and apply their science and math skills in new ways.
